EXPO 2010 Shanghai News - Madrid holiday gift pack and Jiangsu week

Madrid's UBPA case will launch a special gift pack for the coming traditional Chinese Dragon Boat Festival. Visitors can taste Spanish fried bread stick known as "churro" for free, receive up to 50 percent off souvenirs and enjoy a tea ceremony to celebrate the festival on June 16.

The restaurant on the third floor of the so-called "Bamboo House" Madrid Pavilion will treat visitors with Churros on Wednesday. Churro is popular in Spanish-speaking Caribbean islands, normally eaten for breakfast dipped in hot chocolate. Madrid Pavilion hopes it could be an exotic treat for Chinese visitors who always eat zongzi, rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo, at festival time.

The shopping area, on the first floor of the pavilion, will offer special discounts on special-designed souvenirs by famous Madrid designers. The "Air Tree" structure in the pavilion will prepare a special tea ceremony.

Jiangsu Province kicks off its week-long culture show at the World Expo 2010 today by staging folk arts performances at the Baosteel Stage in Zone B of the Pudong site.

The theme of Jiangsu Week is “Style of Wu and Han Culture.” A package of 55 culture performances, theme forums as well as business and tourism promotions will seize the opportunity to spread the image of Jiangsu during the week-long campaign.

More than 600 local musicians, dancers, opera performers and craftsmen have arrived in Shanghai. A musical, “Brilliant Jiangsu,” combining dances and operas featuring Jiangsu culture, will be performed on the Bao Stage twice a day.

The venue will also launch a showcase called “Chinese Elements Practice,” where folk music and puppet plays will be performed. Craftsmen will display skills including weaving, folk painting, engraving and paper-cutting.

Visitors can also enjoy an outdoor show of Jiangsu clothes and folk customs in the Celebration Square.
