Shanghai EXPO Latest News - Russia Pavilion hosts culture roundtable (06/16/2010)

A famous Russian artist yesterday hailed the China Pavilion for its perfect blending of China' profound history and the country's high-tech development.

Nikas Safronov, one of the most well-known Russian modern artists, also praised the host city of the 2010 World Expo while attending a culture roundtable at the Russia Pavilion.

He said Shanghai sets a good example in terms of urban planning and construction because it well preserves its old buildings and showcases gorgeous modern elements at the same time, where culture protection didn't affect the city's modern development.

His view was echoed by Pavel Khoroshilov, Deputy Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, who viewed the China Pavilion as the most impressive structure and hoped more visitors would have a look at the pavilion¡¯s exhibition.

At the roundtable, Russian experts shared their visions on "Cultural Heritage and Urban Regeneration," which is the theme of a two-day World Expo theme forum ended Sunday in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province.

They summed up the fruitful outcomes of the forum which focused on cultural protection and cultural value preservation in the urbanization process.

The roundtable's topics included the forum's impact on Russia's urban development and cities' development worldwide.
